I was surprised to see the price of my favorite brand of free range eggs from Manning Valley selling at double their normal price. Coles is slowly taking out many great free range and organic brands and replacing them with their own crappy tasteless crap brands.

Free Range Eggs

Anyway, here is an email I sent to Manning Valley:

I have always purchased your free range eggs as they seem good quality and the price is competitive but I was shocked when I visited my local supermarket a few days ago. I have always only paid around $3 – $4 for your eggs (12). When I went to Coles here at The Entrance, Central coast NSW they were only selling packs of 6 for about $6 while they had their own brand at just over $3. It is sad to see I can no longer afford these eggs due to Coles aggressive market takeover. I also see many other of my favorite brands have been faded out by Coles and being replaced by their own tasteless replacements.

But Free range eggs are not always what they are marketed to be according to this article from Choice.

According to the Golden Valley UK website:

Recent research amongst 14 flocks by the U.S Dept of Agriculture compared eggs from battery chickens and eggs from pastured chickens and found that when compared to the battery eggs, the pastured eggs contained, on average, four times as much Omega 3, twice as much vitamin E, half the cholesterol and between two and six times as much beta carotene.

I know though that a good brand of free range eggs like those from Manning Valley taste so much better than those horrible caged eggs. We must stand up against the Coles And Woolworths monopoly in this country and let them know that we won’t stand for their selfish marketing tactics and getting rid of the brands we want.
